For all of those, not paying attention in their art classes. Wake up! One of our staff members is back! Can you guess who it is? Look at the title. It’s Ms. Pacheco! She came back from the Marine Corps. She had injured herself and was medically dropped.
Learn about Her Experiences:
After an interview with Ms. Pacheco, she told us about her experiences. Her daily routine was to run five to seven miles every day, carrying a lot of weight while hiking, doing obstacle courses, missions, etc.
Conditions in the Marine Corps:
- Very cold.
- 2-3 hours of sleep a day.
- Good food, but less time to eat.
- Getting yelled at for not finishing your food and not completing the tasks that were assigned.
- Mandatory to write a 300 word essay with a pen, if misdeeds were performed.
Returning to Infinity:
Ms. Pacheco’s foot was hurt for 2 weeks in the Marine Corps and it got worse. She was unable to run and couldn’t perform the tasks given efficiently due to pain in the middle of her feet. She also had to wear boots which increased her pain. This injury caused her to be medically dropped from the Marine Corps; which then broke her and caused her to be unhappy as her efforts went down the drain. Due to that reason, she decided to come back 2 days before the break as the position was open during that time and she needed to be off her feet and this was the perfect opportunity to return.
Revealing Ms. Pacheco’s thoughts:
- If you had to do one job what would it be, Marine Corps(core) or an Art Teacher? Why?
- Art teacher as she wants to retire as a teacher but wants to do 4 years of Marine Corps.
- Did the Marine Corps exhaust you so much that you wanted to quit at any time?
- Yes a lot, because she only had a little bit of time to sleep after heavy training.
- How do you feel after coming back?
- She is in pain and sad she got hurt as well as dropped. She is very excited to come back to Infinity as she missed it a lot, however she also wants to go back to the Marine Corps around March.
- What are your goals for the time you are here for?
- Being cliche, she said, “I want to make a difference in student’s lives and to try my best to be a teacher”.
Fun and Happy Times in Marine Corps:
Although there were many hard times throughout the Marine, Ms. Pacheco still experienced some fun and happy times. One was when Dr. O’Neill sent Ms. Pacheco a huge yellow packet of the sweet cards that all the students in the school wrote for her and as well as that, she sent some gifts to her, too. This surprised all the girls in her dorm, causing them to be happy for her and they were cherished and jealous of the cards that were sent to Ms. Pacheco!
